EMF Concerns – Electric Car

However, my focus is health – and this is what most concerns me regarding vehicles, and electric vehicles (EVs) in particular.

All vehicles have a metal body. In fact, steel makes up the vast majority of your vehicle (frame, roof, floor, exhaust pipes and more). Metal is not only a conductor of electricity, it also acts like a Faraday cage, keeping EMFs inside your car, preventing their exit.

These EMFs are produced via your car’s electronics, as well as blue tooth/wireless systems, and any cellphones that happen to be ‘on’ in the car. Not only are you in extremely close proximity to these frequencies, but the frequencies are actually amplified inside the car, with the walls of the car acting like a resonator.

I have written about EMFs in the past, and the harm they pose to biological organisms. But, for a quick recap: human-madeEMFs pose a very real threat to us and all living organisms. The health impacts of long-term exposure include neurological effects (such as poor memory, focus, sleep disorders, anxiety, and depression), inflammation, cardiovascular dysfunction, fatigue/reduced thyroid function, infertility, and DNA breaks (cancer-causing).

Also, important to note: international and Canadian EMF safety guidelines are based on industry-funded research, are extremely outdated, and are woefully inadequate to protect our health. Over the past 20 years a robust body of independentresearch has shown significant negative biological impacts from exposure to EMFs.

Now, let’s contrast this with an EV. EVs pose a significantly larger risk due to the greater number of electronic devices, and the battery (plus electric coils).

EV cars use a large capacity battery that operates up to 650 volts DC (direct current), compared to a petrol-based car with circuits that operate at 12 or 24 volts. The EV battery is usually situated behind the passenger seats in the back of the car – the area where children, who are particularly sensitive to electromagnetic radiation, are seated. Another area of high radiation is the footwell in front of the driver’s and front passenger’s seats.

These elevated EMFs increase dramatically when the battery is charging, making it imperative that you are notin the car when it is charging.

There is a severe lack of good (available) research on EMF exposure in cars. Although there are plenty of articles ‘debunking’ these dangers. However, these articles are generally funded by the automotive industry and are looking at extremely weak EMF guidelines for reference.

This quote from Theodore P. Metsis PhD (electrical, mechanical and environmental engineer) neatly sums up how I view the situation:

“EMFs in a car in motion with brakes applied + ABS activation may well exceed 100 mG. Adding RF radiation from blue tooth, Wi Fi, the cell phones of the passengers, the 4G antennas laid out all along the major roads plus the radars of cars already equipped with, located behind, left or right of a vehicle, the total EMF and EMR fields will exceed any limits humans can tolerate over a long period of time.”

I spend a fair bit of time driving, so I have tried to reduce my EMF exposure as much as possible. I drive an older model car, so there are fewer electronic devices (no parking assist, no front or rear object sensors, no video screens), and I have disabled the blue tooth system. My phone is always off in the car.

And, when I have passengers, I have implemented one important rule: your cell phone must be ‘off’. Additionally, to further reduce the effects of EMFs, I always travel with my HologramChi mitigation device, which converts EMFs into biocompatible frequencies.

Uncontrolled 5G threatens quality of life

In 2019, the state of Florida passed legislation written by AT&T that limited the ability of local municipalities to govern the rollout of 5G.

While 5G provides “more data faster,” 5G frequencies do not travel very far. Telecom’s solution? “Small cell wireless facilities” approximately every 200 feet in public rights-of-way.

With competing telecom carriers and no requirement for co-location of equipment, you may have multiple pole installations in your front yard.

Here are the issues.

Health and human safety

Scientists in the study of electromagnetic field (EMF) and medical doctors from 42 countries have appealed to the United Nations and to the European Commission asking for a moratorium on the rollout of 5G based on hundreds of independent peer-reviewed studies demonstrating hazards associated with exposure to EMF radiation.

Despite the known health effects, the 1996 Telecommunications Act prohibits local governments from regulating wireless communications on the basis of health and human safety, yet industry has allocated zero dollars to safety testing. RF exposure limits have not been updated since 1996.

Aesthetics

“Small cell wireless” is a misnomer. The equipment may be up to 28 cubic feet in size and may be mounted on utility poles, street lights, bus stops and sides of buildings. It may also be installed in the right-of-way in your front yard.

Cell Tower

EMFs:

  1. Attack our nervous systems including our brains leading to widespread neurological/neuropsychiatric effects and possibly many other effects. This nervous system attack is of great concern.
  2. Attack our endocrine (that is hormonal) systems. In this context, the main things that make us functionally different from single celled creatures are our nervous system and our endocrine systems – even a simple planaria worm needs both of these. Thus, the consequences of the disruption of these two regulatory systems is immense, such that it is a travesty to ignore these findings.
  3. Produce oxidative stress and free radical damage, which have central roles in essentially all chronic diseases.
  4. Attack the DNA of our cells, producing single strand and double strand breaks in cellular DNA and oxidized bases in our cellular DNA. These in turn produce cancer and also mutations in germ line cells which produce mutations in future generations.
  5. Produce elevated levels of apoptosis (programmed cell death), events especially important in causing both neurodegenerative diseases and infertility.
  6. Lower male and female fertility, lower sex hormones, lower libido and increased levels of spontaneous abortion and, as already stated, attack the DNA in sperm cells.
  7. Produce excessive intracellular calcium [Ca2+] and excessive calcium signaling.
  8. Attack the cells of our bodies to cause cancer. Such attacks are thought to act via 15 different mechanisms during cancer causation.

There is also a substantial literature showing that EMFs are associated with other effects including

  • life threatening cardiac effects.
  • very early onset dementias, including Alzheimer’s, digital and other types of dementias
  • EMF exposures in utero and shortly after birth may cause ADHD and autism

Somewhat dismayed by this attack on my beloved computer and cell phone, I arrived back home, turned on new Safe and Sound Pro R meter for testing Wi-Fi microwaves and walked into my home office.  The device immediately began buzzing as it measured EMF frequencies in the Moderate and High range. As I got closer to my computer, the device seemed to scream with Extreme levels, far beyond EMF industry “safety” standards, which, by the way, haven’t been updated since 1996, and are based on short term exposure to ONE device.  And, my wife and I bathe in this microwave (as in Microwave Oven) frequency every night as our bedroom is on the other side of the wall from my home office.

In this newsletter, I will present some of the Conference research so you can make your own decision. Your health and that of your family depends is riding on what you decide.  I also want to reassure you that you do not have to give up your cell phone or computer.  You just need to use them, probably less, but in a safe manner which reduces the exposure to wi-fi and other EMF energies in your home.

HOW EMFS AFFECT EACH ONE OF YOUR CELLS

Scientists have discovered that EMFs from cell phones, Wi-Fi routers, and cell towers activate countless microscopic sensors that are found on the surface of every one of your 70 trillion cells.

When these “voltage sensors” are exposed to foreign EMF signals, your cells get tricked into allowing large amounts of calcium to flow inside…

Normally, calcium is a healthy mineral — but too much calcium inside the cell is the equivalent of pouring gas on a fire and triggers a range of negative health effects.

Put simply, EMFs are an added stress to every single cell in your body — whether you personally feel EMF-related symptoms or not.

Just like you probably opt to eat whole, natural foods as free of toxic pesticides as possible… aiming to minimize your personal EMF exposure is a great action step for your health.

In his 2013 groundbreaking paper, Dr. Martin Pall has shown that extremely low levels of EMFs can activate the cells’ voltage gated calcium channels, leading to 14 distinct downstream biological effects such as oxidative stress, DNA breaks, melatonin depletion, infertility and cancer.

Home Office and EMF

The world has seen lots of changes in the past eight months. Economist Nicholas Bloom from Stanford University says that 42 percent of the U.S. labor force is now working from home. In addition, our children are also learning from home, at least part-time. This means that the level of tech usage in our homes has increased dramatically, resulting in enormous EMF pollution in our home–office spaces.

Computers are only part of the problem. Our usage of cell phones and smart-watches has also increased, not to mention other EMF-emitting devices like printers, wireless keyboards, Bluetooth headsets, tablets, and more.

All of these devices contribute to turning your home into a highly EMF-infused zone.

But here’s the good news: there are many easy steps you can take right away to dramatically reduce your EMF exposure without eliminating the use of your devices – some of which I’ll discuss in this post.

But before that, let’s understand the types of EMF that surrounds your home office space.

Common Types of EMF

There are four main electromagnetic fields (EMF) that you can find in your home. These are electric fields, magnetic fields, radiofrequency (RF), and dirty electricity. Apart from these, there are static electricity and blue light, which are also types of EMF, but not similar to the four fields above.

We have another post explaining all of these electromagnetic fields in detail. But let’s look at a short overview to understand how they work.

Electric Fields

Electricity generates electric fields. So, if you have wires running through walls, power cords plugged into outlets, or anything that uses electricity, there will be electric fields present in your space.

Magnetic Fields

Magnetic fields often come from overhead or buried power lines. It’s also common to see magnetic fields near breaker panels, large appliances, outlets, and things with different speeds or motors like blenders, hairdryers, electric toothbrushes, computer chargers, and toasters.

Radio Frequency

Wireless devices like cell phones, WiFi routers, laptops, and tablets emit radio frequencies or RF-EMF.  Radio waves transfer information from one place to another through the air.

Other common sources of RF-EMF are cell towers, fitness trackers, smart speakers, anything with Bluetooth, and modern gaming systems.

Dirty Electricity

Electricity usually flows in a 50 to 60 Hz sine wave, depending on where you live. When something disturbs its standard flow, it creates micro-surge electrical pollution, commonly known as dirty electricity.

When something disturbs the standard flow of electricity, it creates micro-surge electrical pollution, commonly known as dirty electricity.

Some tech products that cause a disturbance in electricity flow are CFL lightbulbs, LED lightbulbs, fluorescent lights, solar panels, computer chargers, energy-saving devices, and utility meters.
